Level Up!

Submitted by Prentis Henry on Thursday, 17 August 2017 - 18:05

Do you think the leveling of the refrigerator really matters?

Hopefully you said, yes… yes it does.  As a matter of fact it’s the most important aspect of all.  The ammonia absorption cooling unit operates utilizing a bubble pump similar to that of a percolator coffee pot.  Just as with a percolator coffee pot, if you were to hold it at an angle while trying to brew coffee you would be quite disappointed with the end result.  The bubble pump operates most efficiently in a completely vertical position that allows the liquid escaping from the top of the inner tube to be pulled back down to the reservoir where it will be incorporated again into the supply of refrigerant.  Keeping the refrigerator level will therefore increase its efficiency and effectiveness.

Running the refrigerator out of level can also cause adverse side effects that are much more costly than a few spoiled groceries.  An additive in the refrigerant, that prevents corrosion of the steel piping,  will turn to into a very hard calcium deposit in the bottom of the bubble pump’s inner tube if the refrigerator is operated out of level.  Once that calcium deposit is established, it will continue to grow until the inner tube is completely blocked.  Say hello to a new cooling unit because the only way to “unclog” the tube is to cut it open and rebuild it.

On a good note, if you find yourself in such a predicament we offer remanufactured cooling units for all 6 cu/ft. and larger refrigerators at a fraction of the cost of a new one from the manufacturer.  Give us a call for more information.

Every refrigerator has a drain line to allow condensation and defrosting deposits to be funneled out of the food storage area to the outside of the coach or camper. We all know that these drain lines need to empty out of the coach or into a drain pan of some
