Over the past year or so there has been a new product emerge in the RV Refrigeration market. The Freon cooling unit replacement for a Norcold 1200 / 1210 refrigerator made by JC Refrigeration. These units fit directly into the same mounting space as the original ammonia cooling unit and use the existing electronics to control it. Thereby transforming your existing RV refrigerator into a Freon based system seen in most residential (home) units.
These upgraded units are approximately the same cost as replacing the Ammonia based unit originally installed on the fridge. So if you are in the situation where you need a cooling unit replacement, but are considering installing a residential unit I would recommend you look at this option first. You can get all the same benefits without the need of spending additional money and time modifying cabinetry in your coach to fit the residential refrigerator. You can also avoid the possibility of having to replace your MSW inverter with a PSW that most residential units require. This cooling unit has a 12v compressor that has no need for the clean A/C power required by the residential refrigerators.
If you’re a DIYer this swap out can easily be done on your own saving an additional 600.00 in labor compared to most service center installation costs. If this is something your interested in please give us a call and we can discuss.
