Don’t Like Propane… Use Your Batteries.

Submitted by Prentis Henry on Thursday, 15 June 2017 - 16:09
Many of our customers don’t prefer to run their refrigerators on propane while they are traveling down the road or dry camping due to the risk of fire. Many of those same customers don’t like to run a generator either due to the CO build-up potential in the coach. We here at RV Refrigerator Repair have the solution. Give us a call and we can schedule you a time to come in and have a single point inversion system put in to run your refrigerator on battery power or shore power without ever touching a button. Depending on the make and model of your refrigerator, space available, and the current battery bank capabilities pricing will

Between The Lines

Submitted by Prentis Henry on Friday, 5 May 2017 - 13:34
Does the leveling of the refrigerator really matter? Why yes… yes it does.  As a matter of fact it’s the most important aspect of all.  The ammonia absorption cooling unit operates utilizing a bubble pump similar to that of a percolator coffee pot.  Just as with a percolator coffee pot, if you were to hold it at an angle while trying to brew coffee you would be quite disappointed with the end result.  The bubble pump operates most efficiently in a completely vertical position that allows the liquid escaping from the top of the inner tube to be pulled back down to the reservoir where it will be incorporated again into the supply of refrigerant.  Keeping the

Summer Time Blues

Submitted by Prentis Henry on Thursday, 23 March 2017 - 14:35
As the summer approaches and the temperature gets higher and higher there are going to be many of you out there that notice your refrigerator isn’t getting cold enough anymore. Most commonly we hear that the freezer is working just fine but the refrigerator isn’t quite getting to temperature. Most likely the culprit is a lowering of the pressure inside your cooling unit. As small pinholes start to develop in the steel coil the pressure will slowly drop off. In the cooler temperatures of the fall and winter these low pressures are not as evident because it doesn’t take as much effort to cool the ammonia gas due to the ambient air temperature. As the

The Main Drain… Plug

Submitted by Prentis Henry on Tuesday, 17 January 2017 - 16:43
Every refrigerator on the market today has a drain line to allow condensation and runoff to be funneled out of the food storage area to the outside of the coach or camper. We all know that these drain lines need to empty out of the coach or into a drain pan of some kind so that the water doesn’t rot out the platform and wall underneath and behind the refrigerator. However, there is a little known fact about these drain tubes that you should be aware of. There is typically a stopper or cap installed at the end of these drain lines and many times the owners remove them to allow more water to flow

Doing The Thermistor Shuffle

Submitted by Prentis Henry on Monday, 17 October 2016 - 01:11
You may have been advised to “move your thermistor probe” to help adjust the temperature inside the food compartment of your refrigerator.  If so, you may have also wondered “What is a thermistor?” and “Why does moving it to a different area make a difference?”.  Wonder no more fore here is the answer. A Thermistor is a simple resistance based thermal probe that changes resistance based on the ambient air temperature.  The control board it is plugged into will read that resistance and turn on, or off, the heat source as needed to maintain a constant temperature.  As these probes begin to deteriorate the resistance may slowly become out of the range it should be
